ACTRESS JACQUELINE PEARCE DIES AGED 77

Extremely sad to hear of the passing of Jacqueline Pearce tonight . . Pearce always held a certain authority and glamour to any of the roles that she played in the fantasy genre. After her training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, alongside Anthony Hopkins and John Hurt, she appeared in episodes of tv's Danger Man and The Avengers, as well as children’s dramas 'Moondial and Dark Season', written by Russell T Davies.

Alongside her role in Blake’s 7, which was expanded from a single episode to a regular role over four series due to her popularity, Pearce was also known for her guest role as Chessene in The Two Doctors episodes of Doctor Who in 1985, opposite Colin Baker’s version of the Time Lord.

After relocating to South Africa for several years, initially to care for orphaned monkeys, Pearce returned to the UK in 2015. Her autobiography, From Byfleet to the Bush, was published in 2012. Pearce also worked with Peter Cushing in an episode of ITC's THE ZOO GANG, as Brigitte Gautier in The Counterfeit Trap in 1974.

Her work in tv was certainly prolific. She will also be remembered for her roles with Hammer films in 'The Reptile' and 'Plague of the Zombies' both in 1966.

#TOOCOOTUESDAY: THE MAN WHO THOUGHT HE WAS A HAIRDRESSER: CELEBRATED TODAY!

Today, the nineteenth of September we remember the late ANTHONY HINDS, today he would have been his 96th birthday. And we are marking this day in style, a whole new PLAYLIST of vintage INTERVIEW CLIPS with Anthony Hinds, available to watch at our PCAS YOUTUBE CHANNEL and LINKED HERE TOO! There are also EXPANDED features on HINDS films for Hammer, accessible at our supplement website, THEBLACKBOXCLUB.COM For many Hammer film fans, Hinds represents the 'Golden Years' of the studios output and production. Producer and script writer, he was responsible for some of Peter Cushing's most revered work in the fantasy genre.

ABOVE TWO #GIFS FROM HINDS 'BACK TO BACK' PRODUCTION PERIOD, HAMMER FILMS, 'THE PLAGUE OF ZOMBIES' (1966)

In Hammer's early days, it was Hinds idea to hire country houses and to based the production and shooting in the rooms and grounds of the locations, which saved the the studio huge production costs. He was also the brains behind shooting productions 'back to back'. (See the CLIP ABOVE!) 'The Reptile' and 'The Plague of the Zombies', are two very good examples.

In his private life, Hinds lived in the stock-belt district of London. His family owned a large chain of jewellery stores through-out the UK. But to his friends, the details of Hinds day job was only shared outside of the family, on a 'need-to-know' basis. Hinds told neighbours and acquaintances he was the owner manager of a string of Hairdressing salons in the city, and that the E Type Jag in his drive, was the result of many shampoo and sets! It wasn't that he was embarrassed about his job, but as he explained many years later, he didn't think the daily doings of The Baron, body parts, Dracula and gore, wouldn't go down too well, with the chaps at the golf club . . .

ORIGINALLY POSTED IN 2013 ON HIS PASSING : OUR TRIBUTE
TO ANTHONY HINDS  HERE!
His script writing skills, have been picked over by many, but few could doubt his skill in managing tight budgets, and building impressive productions, with very limited resources and finance...and for this, he was indeed, the 'Master Builder and Architect of Hammer films'...and for that, we are very grateful.....

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY : KELLY SHARES A NEW FIGURE

A NEW MICHAEL RIPPER sculpt is in the works from KELLY GODEL. Premièring here at the Peter Cushing Appreciation Society and and at our FACEBOOK FAN PAGE too! Kelly tells us that, 'The previous Michael Ripper figure was inspired by Ripper's character in Hammer films, Scars of Dracula. This is more of a "Tom Bailey" but without the beard (yet)!

Although Kelly is still working on this figure, I could see this one already had all the signs of being just as excellent as his last Michael Ripper, and I think it will being sought after by figure collectors. I Kelly him how would someone go about ordering one?. 'I don't have any selling plans other than if anyone wants one they message contact me--and there are more to come. I can be contacted at, kgodel@show(dot)ca or they can facebook message me.'

I never really saw Michael very often after he retired. Even though when he was working, he always made time for fans and was, in all this attention, an extremely humble man. He admitted he was a little confused and enormously flattered by the interest that his work with Hammer was now receiving. I once joked and said he might be surprised yet, should they erect a statue of him in honour of his work. He smiled and actually blushed!

During our chatting on facebook today, I mentioned to Kelly that it was great to see this figure was up to his usual excellent standard. And that I was pleased to see he had chosen to make another Michael Ripper figure! Within seconds, Kelly's reply came through on the chat box...it said, 'I haven't forgotten that you said, Michael Ripper would be "over the moon" to have had a statue made of him, so I had to do two!'

Hmm, I think Michael would have liked that..!
