KINO FLESH AND THE FIENDS BLU RAY WITH EXTRAS PLUS VINTAGE HAMMER POSTERS FOR SALE! BUT HOW MUCH ARE THEY WORTH?

#WATCHWITHCUSHING! We all know that vintage and original press and promotion materials for much of #PeterCushing's 1950's and 60's films are now worth a pretty penny. If they also hold an autograph the value is even higher! Here in this clip at the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE! are TWO superb examples. Just for FUN . . BEFORE you watch this clip of these posters being sold, I would like you to comment on the post and tell me how much YOU think both the 1958 '#Dracula' UK #cinema quad poster, in pretty good condition and the almost mint 1965 Amicus 'Dr Terror's House of Horrors' UK cinema poster, could individually be worth? Write your figure in the comment section on the page BEFORE you watch this clip 😉No cheating 😏😊 I guess you can always state that the price of what something is #worth, is really . . how much someone is willing will pay? 💰💰😲But at FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE, in this clip . .  they are prepared to pay A LOT! This clip is around four years old, so chances these #posters are worth even more today! Have fun, stay safe and look after each other- Marcus 😉

AN UPDATE ON THE KINO BLU RAY release of 'FLESH AND THE FIENDS' is that the things are still set for JULY 7th 2020 AND that this John Gilling directed, based on a true story 2K restoration will also be carrying some extras too!

'THE FLESH AND THE FIENDS'
Starring Peter Cushing, Donald Pleasence, June Laverick, Billie Whitelaw, George Rose, Renee Houston and Dermot Walsh – Shot by Monty Berman (Jack the Ripper, The Crawling Eye) – Music by Stanley Black (War-Gods of the Deep, Valentino) – Co-written by Leon Griffiths (The Grissom Gang, The Squeeze) – Co-written and Directed by John Gilling (The Reptile, The Plague of the Zombies).

THIS RELEASE IS COMING AS A TWO DISC package, because not only do you get the 2k RESTORATION BLU RAY but there's also a FULL ALTERNATIVE CUT which also carries the USA title of 'The Fiendish Ghouls' and 'Mania'. You would be forgiven for thinking, that maybe Amicus films producer, MAX ROSENBERG, may have had a dabble and offered for free with one of his OTT titles at their press office too? Not so. . . .

OVER THE YEARS, there have been quite a few different cuts made available on the home cinema market. Right now, there is a DVD available from Image Entertainment who list their running duration for the "uncut" original theatrical version at 94 minutes, but they also carry a slightly extended, wait for it . .  "Continental" version—produced only for European markets with more permissive, boob and bottom nodding censors— running at 95 minutes which includes extra shots, short sequences or alternative takes with more nudity. 'THE FLESH AND THE FIENDS' was released by Valiant in the USA using the titles 'MANIA' and 'PSYCHO KILLERS' . . .  (Guess which box office smashing Hitchcock film was released also in 1960)  . . . using the censored British theatrical cut, but it didn't stop there... FIVE years later in 1965 a re-release by Pacemaker Pictures under the title 'THE FIENDISH GHOULS' cut a whole 23 minutes from the film's runtime! Both the UK and the continental cut of the film are included in the KINO BLU RAY RELEASE!

ALSO INCLUDED in thus release is an 'Audio Commentary by Film Historian Tim Lucas'. Disc Two also includes the 1960  theatrical TRAILER for 'THE FLESH AND THE FIENDS' I am not sure how many 'units' of this film have been  produced for sale, but those smiling after awaiting a long while for this remastering and would like to guarantee a copy of this gem to your library shelf, now might be a good time to nail that order 😊- Marcus

ONE MAN AND HIS PASSION FOR TOYS WITH THEATRES FULL HOUSE AND SOLD OUT!

PETER CUSHING was certainly a man of hobbies. MANY hobbies. Collections, books, stamps, coins, figures, soldiers, trains, cigarette cards, models .. and toys! After Peter's passing, it took two major auctions and several smaller charity sales, to clear a vast collection of passions. Toys were something he had a great love for and the older and simpler it was, the more he liked it 😀 Eighty years after it was purchased and given to him . . he still owned his first and most favourite toy... Piglet!

This weeks quote is taken from Peter Cushing: Past Forgetting' Weidenfeld and Nicolson 1988.

WHOSE PANTS ARE THESE AND WOULD YOU BUY THEM?

FAMOUS PANTS FOR SALE! There is a kinda Cushing connectionl They were once involved in a very cloak and dagger scenario.... so who do you think wore them and in what Peter Cushing movie??? Answers and suggestions are being asked for over at the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE right now  . . .

PETER CUSHING AS CHRISTOPHER MAITLAND... yup that surname again, in an Amicus film... in 'The Skull' (1965). The director Freddie Francis often said that Subotsky's screenplay for The Skull, was when he received it, little more than just a story outline. Much of the dialogue, of which there was far less, than the usual Amicus film, was devised on set, along with blocking of the action. Subotsky wasn't a lover of dialogue laden scripts.

HERE ARE TWO EXCELLENT reviews complete with great image and photograph galleries from Peter Cushing's `1965 Amicus film, 'THE SKULL'  HERE  and  HERE!

PCAS actually owns a copy of the Francis, Robert Bloch script... there are many pages of notes and added dialogue in Francis handwriting. The additions made it one of Amicus films best movies, wonderful roles for the cast and for Cushing, a really dramatic character opportunity, in which he shines.... Is 'The Skull', one of your Top 5 Amicus films?

EVERY LITTLE HELPS! A SURPRISE AND A LITTLE EXTRA FOR YOUNG PETER CUSHING FAN AT TESCO'S!

FOR COLLECTORS of Peter Cushing material and any other full time movie fans, there is a preoccupation, that seems to kick in, anytime we are in town, out shopping or visiting a high street or mall. Personally, my first trip is into any book shop. I change spectecles and scan the shelves looking for something interesting. I can usually find something, but it's rarely as rewarding as where I venture off to next. The CHARITY shop! I have lost count of the many messages and stories I have received at the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE from the many of you who have bagged a bargian finding hardback releases of the very popular Alan Frank 'Horror Movies' books from the 1970's and 80's. For some of us, these book were purchased when we were teenagers, read and read until the glue spine broke, pages fell out, and the book get lost and parted company, when we left home for Uni or to start our own families. Finding any of these books, after a sometime 30 or more years separation, is like meeting an old friend!

SO MANY CHARITIES now, have moved into our high streets in the UK. Every one of these stores seems to be packed and selling clothing, second hand shoes, small furniture and what my Mum used to call, 'Bric-a-brac'! All for a reasonable price, but it isn't any of those tidd bits, which brings me in. I am after BOOKS. If I can find any book that has a film angle, I'll pick it up, and if it isn't something I want to keep after reading, I'll take it back, for the store to resell. There have been a few days, that have resulted in a real find, but nothing as good a find, as JAKE CRACKNELL made a few months ago . .

JAKE LIVES on the Isle of Wight. And on this day, Jake was shopping on his own, in his local 'Tesco Extra; supermarket. 'I was just doing some shopping by myself. Went to the check out, filled my bags and just as I was leaving the store, I noticed they had a charity book shelf. I could see they had quite a few books and they were all being sold for a donation. So, I put my bags down and had a look. As usual with these type of things, there were lots of romantic novels, which don't interest me. I am a huge Peter Cushing and Star Wars fan, so anything on that, would make me very happy.' says Jake. It was while he scanned the spins of the books and paperbacks, he spotted a spine that was dark blue, and unbelievably, he could see the name, CUSHING in gold lettering! ' I couldn't believe it, it was a hardback of Peter Cushing's Biography Volume One!' says Jake. 'I quickly picked it up, checked the dust cover for any damage. It was just like new! I couldn't beleive my luck! So, making my contribution in the charity box, I popped it in my bag and made off for home.'

THAT WAS THREE MONTHS AGO. Just two days ago, Jake sent us a message. 'I was in Tesco's a few months ago, and was lucky to find a copy of Peter Cushing's autobiography in a charity book pile! I was very happy to find it and now have my own copy. A few days ago, I thought I would start to give it a read' Then Jake's message got very interesting. 'The book had been clumsily stacked with the others in the charity pile at the supermarket, and the dust cover flap had slipped and was folded in and over, holding the first few pages of the book. It was only when I opened it, and rearranged the pages and put the dust cover leaf back in place, I noticed something written on the title page in ink!! 'STEPHEN : 86 : Peter Cushing'. I am REALLY SHOCKED! Please could you tell me if this IS Peter Cushing's autograph? Many Thanks, Jake.'

JAKE HAD MADE the rare find of bagging a SIGNED Peter Cushing Autobiography, in a charity box pile! I KNOW Tesco's strap line slogan is 'EVERY LITTLE HELPS' and they provide what they say is a LITTLE XTRA' but this purchase was certainly, special with MORE than a little extra! I have often had messages from many of you who have found copies of BOTH autobiographies in charity stores, for a POUND or LESS! But, this is the first time, I have heard of a SIGNED one being found. I wrote back to Jake and told him, he was a lucky chap! It was indeed, Peter's signature. Well done! Jake is one of many younger followers to this society, who are just as interested in Peter's work and films as we are. What an amazing bit of luck to have found not just a copy of Peter's book, but a signed copy. For those of you, who this weekend have cruised your weekly trip into the charity shops and their book piles, have faith. It MIGHT just happen again!

RARE COLOUR PHOTOGRAPH FROM THE ZOO GANG PLUS THE SMOKING JACKET CONNECTION!

PETER CUSHING AND JAQUELINE PEARCE in THE ZOO GANG! Peter Cushing appeared in an episode of the UK ITC series called 'THE ZOO GANG' back in 1974. In 'THE COUNTERFEIT TRAP', CUSHING plays Judge Gautie and appears with the very neat cast of actors who play the 'GANG', which included John Mills, Brian Keith, Lili Palmer and Barry Morse... the majority CUSHING had much experience of working with in previous productions, like Amicus films to Sherlock Holmes and theatre too! The Zoo Gang was released in a blu ray box set earlier this year. I would love to hear from anyone who also purchased it and hear what they think of the great extras and episodes. . .

THE SMOKING JACKET that Peter Cushing wore in this episode of THE ZOO GANG, was also worn by Peter in Amicus films, 'THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD' (1970). The jacket also went up for sale at auction back in April 2016. The auction house, Bonham's had a problem, in that they knew Peter had worn it, but were not sure in which tv show or movie. When they purchased the jacket, they were told that Peter wore it in a Sherlock Holmes episode for the BBC back in 1969! They dropped us a line and asked if we knew. I immediately recognised it from The House That Dripped Blood... and The Zoo Gang! They generously gave us a credit in the auction catalogue, and the jacket went for a great price! You can read the whole story HERE!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: CUSHING'S MODEL THEATRES AND HISTORICAL SCENES

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: WE ARE turning back the clock to the 1950's and 60's, when it seemed that Peter Cushing was not only appearing on either one or both TV stations in the UK, every other night, but also a time, when not working, he was very busy at home. Cushing had been a prolific model maker, in the sense that, he not only made the figures, historical and theatrical, he also made the theater's, the sets, the buildings, all in miniature. The materials were wood, paint, plaster, clay and paper-mach. Sadly, when his wife Helen, died in 1971, Cushing decided that the time of creative pastimes and hobbies, had little interest to him. Much of his huge collection of model theaters, soldiers, paintings and a vast array of collectable books, stamps, postcards and collectables, were the past. There they sat, in his loft studio at what had been his home and Helen's since the late 1950's.

After Cushing's passing in 1994, a levy of Death Tax was to be paid and much of what made his private collection and creations from his hobbies, were put up for auction. Thousands of lots, containing furniture, clothes and the entire Cushing collection, were put under the hammer...Everything must go. And it did.

Above the MODEL THEATRES depicting scenes from productions and history are as follows.

A: An Egyptian Palace scene set suitable for Cleopatra or The Mummy. The scene is fully lit, signed by Peter Cushing 1969.  A magnificent vignette of Antony & Cleopatra reclining on a tiger skin draped couch with their entourage.

B: The Wheel and Poop Deck of a 18th /19th Century British [man of war] ship, fully lit. Figures in British naval dress of the 18th /19th Century individually modeled and painted by Peter Cushing.

CSet for Journey`s End by R.C. Sherriff, a British dugout, March 1918 before St Quentin, the trench section is fully lit, signed by Peter Cushing in 1967.Cast of actors in WWI British uniform individually modeled and painted 54mm foot figures comprising: 7 officers and men. This scene would have been of special interest to Peter. Journey's End was the production he had wanted to appear in, since he had been a young actor... but never did.

The rows of INDIVIDUAL FIGURES, created and painted by Peter Cushing are TOPMedieval period royalty - foot figures of: Mathilda of Flanders, King John, William 1, Henry II & Richard 1. MIDDLE: A collection of historical figures comprising: Ancient to Medieval period foot figures of 2 x Vikings, Hengist, Canute, & Alfred the Great. BOTTOM: Signing the Magna Carta - foot figures of: King John, Clergy, Knights & Barons.

#CUSHINGCOLLECTABLES : PETER CUSHING'S WRITING BUREAU / DESK

HERE'S A NEW THEME for our Wednesday's here at the website... by your suggestion, CUSHING COLLECTABLES! Every week, I 'll post and share items from the PCAS Collection or from my personal bits and bobs! Most of the items have a story behind them, some are valuable, some not so, they're just lovely things to see and collect ...with a history!

This week we kick off with an item of furniture that Peter and Helen Cushing purchased for their home when they lived in Kensington London. An Edwardian writing desk / bureau, which then was moved to the home in Whitstable... it has three deep drawers and a pull down writing area with lovely little compartments. On top, behind the two glass wooden lattice doors are three, shelves.

On the banner above are two pictures of the bureau, one on the left in Peter's study, and on the right, today . This bureau was purchased at auction, along with several other items... there is a GREAT story connected to this bureau, which I will share with you, with some NEVER seen before photographs of something quite, quite unique...in the next post!
