WHICH AWARDS? WHAT YEAR? WHO WON AND WHAT IS THE CUSHING CONNECTION?

ABOVE: BACK A FEW DAYS AGO, I set this little teaser, as one of our daily posts at the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE to see of anyone would solve the questions on the photograph above . . . 😏😊

"A RARE press photograph of Peter Cushing looking dapper and smart for one of his rare appearances, at a televised Awards Evening... BUT ... without me giving anything away, WHO do you think WON this award? Which Awards Ceremony was this? What year was this... and WHO won??? I have a photograph of the successful too and will give you the answer later... have fun!"- Our Facebook Post August 12th 2020

IT WAS GREETED with quite a few suggestions and answers. Some were close, good guesses but the majority incorrect. I thought for a hour or so, I MAY have foxed our good friends. And then, a BIG hint for many, when hinted suggestion was posted . . 'I'm pretty certain, the winners weren't there to pay Cushing! The answer will 'bring sunshine' to many, even if one of them had 'short fat hairy legs!' THEN, I knew the game was up! 😆 Well done, Anthony Stuctbury!

ABOVE: ONE OF THE MANY appearances Peter Cushing made on the MORECAMBE and WISE show. This one is from 1969with . .  Peter Cushing as King Arthur, Ernie Wise as Merlin, Eric Morecambe as Sherlock Holmes and Ann Hamilton as Guinevere in the play what Ernie wrote - Knights Of The Round Table. This appearance was Cushing's first show, and set the 'framework' for all his other appearances with Eric and Ernie, where he was chasing the PAY for this first show! 😁😅

THIS IS YOUR LIFE: GUESTING FOR ERNIE'S LIFE AND THE QUEST FOR THAT CHEQUE!

THIS WEEKEND HERE IN THE UK, it's a Bank Holiday. Which means, traditionally means, The Sound of Music with Julie Andrews will be screened on tv for the 100th time, relatives will visit, over stay and eat you out of house and home, it WILL rain for the entirety of the holiday break, and boredom will reign too! SO, here's a little treat, to be enjoyed and savored, not only here by us Brits, but across the globe, or were ever people need a giggle.

YOU CAN WATCH MANY OF PETER CUSHING'S APPEARANCES ON THE MORECAMBE AND WISE SHOW, IN OUR SPECIAL PLAYLIST AT OUR PCAS YOU TUBE CHANNEL : HERE!

FOR THE FIRST TIME we present Peter Cushing's appearance as a guest on the This Is Your Life UK show, featuring one half of that great British comedy duo, Morecambe and Wise. Sadly, Eric Morecambe had passed by this point in 1993, but Ernie bravely worked on for several years. Peter Cushing appeared many times as a guest on their show. The first was in 1969, he appeared in a comedy play 'written' by Ernie, where Peter played king Arthur. Throughout the BBC era of the show, he would regularly join Wise and his comic partner, Eric Morecambe. On stage; he would constantly seek payment for his first 1969 appearance, wearily asking "Have you got my five pounds yet?"

FULL FILM: Peter Cushing in 'A Chump At Oxford' with Laurel and Hardy

THIS RUNNING JOKE continued when the duo left the BBC and moved to Thames Television in 1978. Cushing appeared in their first special for Thames Television on 18 October, still asking to be paid, with the hosts repeatedly trying to get rid of him; at the end of the show, Morecambe placed some money in a wallet wired up to a bomb, in an attempt to blow Cushing up in exaggerated comedic style. In the duo's 1980 Christmas special, Cushing pretended to be the Prime Minister while Morecambe and Wise caroled outside 10 Downing Street; he made the comedians give him money and finally came out to declare "Paid, at last!"

ON FEBRUARY 3rd 1972 and "Live" on television, all glitter and glamour, is the once-a-year event, held in the Albert Hall, when the film and television industry presents awards covering the whole range of the industry . . .. and Peter Cushing is there to present his pals, Morecambe and Wise with their Best Light Entertainment Performance Award, along with their writer, Eddie Braben . . . and no, they didn't bring him his money!

STEPHEN WEEKS AWAKENING AVALON COMPETITION: WIN A SIGNED PROOF, SIGNED BOOKS... AND DINNER WITH STEPHEN WEEKS!

AWAKENING AVALON: Encounters with an ancient force – stronger even than the fanatical dreams of science…

"The forces of evil have never died; maybe there have been periods when they’ve slept – but never for long. The twentieth century was a time of particular evil, but when a time-lock automatically opened in a mysterious vault under Wewelsburg Castle in Germany in 1995, the prospect of a new evil being unleashed on the world became more than merely a dark fear.

By 2004, when the main action of Awakening Avalon takes place, this fear had become a reality as the tentacles of evil were twitching at the possibilities provided by the rapid developments of science. But, just as there are forces of evil, so there are – on watch, waiting, the forces of good. Once invoked, they must do battle…

AWAKENING AVALON is an extraordinary journey as the action flies from the days immediately after the Second World War through to the hi-tech citadel of modern San Francisco, finally coming to rest in the peaceful precincts of Mercia Cathedral and in the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey in England – where the contest between good and evil must finally be played out.

For those who like the Arthurian legends, then several characters will be well known to them – but never as seen like this!

THE COMPETITION:
Awakening Avalon didn't start out it's life as a novel. It was to have been film. And reading the novel, one can easily see what an amazing film it would have been. You can read all about this in our exclusive interview with Stephen Weeks next weekend and his forthcoming book, 'Stairs Of Sand'. But, what is the Peter Cushing connection in this competition, you maybe thinking...?

Stephen Weeks 'It was ready to go into production. All cast. It would have been Peter Cushing's and Christopher Lee's last film together...'

AND THERE LIES THE CONNECTION!
