#ROGUEONE TRENDS ON TWITTER!

#VERYHAPPY to see 'Rogue One : A Star Wars Story' trending on Twitter today 😲I can't help thinking that Peter Cushing would have very much loved the film too. Personally, I think #ROGUEONE  is THE most beautiful cinematic #StarWars film of the whole series!

The #Sideshowtoys figure of #PeterCushing as Grand Moff Tarkin 'Star Wars' (1977) Quite an impressive figure. Apparently, #ForbiddenPlanet in Shaftesbury Avenue, #London has one in their figure display cabinet opposite the checkouts!

IS IT BAD TO LOVE THE ROGUE ONE? THE RESURRECTION OF CGI TARKIN TWEAKED

#WATCHWITHCUSHING! 'Is it wrong to love THE Rogue One? Well, here's a confession, I am very fond of this film and have a lot of respect for what Industrial Light and Magic and Guy Henry achieved in the finished film. We've posted a feature about this today at the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE . .. For those not up to speed with what happened four years ago...here we go! In the 2016 anthology film '#RogueOne', archive footage and a digital scan of Cushing's life mask made for the 1984 film Top Secret! were used to create a 3D CGI mask which was augmented and mapped to actor Guy Henry's face. Henry had studied Cushing's mannerisms many years previously for the lead role in British TV show 'Young Sherlock', but insisted on a screen test as he was not comfortable that his vocal imitation was accurate, stating he sounded more like "Peter O'Toole than #PeterCushing".

THE ILM team searched through hours of footage to find suitable material of Cushing to build from, footage from 'A New Hope' was lit very differently to the lighting used in 'Rogue One' and had to be digitally changed. The more they manipulated the lighting to match the other actors in the scenes the less like Cushing the character model looked, which meant creating a balancing act between "a digital figure" and "one who looked precisely like Cushing". The owners of Cushing's estate were heavily involved with the creation and had input right down to "small, subtle adjustments".

ABOVE: THE PCASUK STORY ON APRIL FOOL'S DAY!

THE RESULT, which has been called "one of the most complex and costly CGI re-creations ever", received a mixed response. Recently, Derpfakes who is quite the dab hand at creating some quite stunning CGI creations and sharing them for critiques on YouTube. Here for your analysis, is his tweaking and nudging, of the ILM job on Tarkin's appearance in 'Rogue One' (2016) ... There are some interesting chances... for some I am sure, there will be little difference. Later, if you like me have always thought the ideas and concepts of 'Star Wars' were very original and new, join us later 😉 - Marcus

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE OTHER TARKIN AND HOUSE MAKES A HALLOWEEN SPLASH ON FILMFAX PLUS COVER!

TODAY WE ARE MARKING a birthday of an actor, that just a few years ago any Cushing or Star Wars fans and the actor involved would never have believed if you told them, how the three would connect! When the idea of bringing Tarkin back to the big screen, this  actor was very busily working in a UK soap drama... and then come the beginning of December2016 he was thrust into the spotlight, following huge anticipation for the arrival of the STAR WARS movie, #ROGUEONE. But remember, Henry wasn't just playing any character though, this was a role that would split the opinion of Cushing fans, movie goers and Star Wars Followers, the world over....  A Job Well done, Mr Henry 😉 A VERY Happy Birthday to you, have a great day!

A FOOTNOTE to this post, as it  appears on the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE  'On the subject of Tarkin CGI' 'This is one of those little nuts that is never going to be cracked. I think, like all things about film, it depends on your personal perspective... on the week Rogue One was released I did a live ...hour long...interview on WGN radio about the film. I knew, it was going to be tricky. The angle really was 'What do you think? should they have done it, was it ok to put a CGI Cushing of Tarkin in the film?'... and I stand on what I said back then. You'll never please everyone no matter how good the CGI is.. but more to the point, they had the OK of Cushing's estate to do it . . knowing PC well, I trust their judgement. As for the point of, 'It ain't REAL!'... well, I hate to burst your bubble, but hey, this is Star Wars.. it's a fantasy, nothing you are seeing up there is real.. it's a movie.vWould Cushing have ok'ed the idea? Well, as you would have seen from many posts we have shared with here, we are talking about a man who 'created' toy theatres and model actors, he spent months making figures, painted water colours and oils, spent time on the floor setting up his model soldiers, re-enacting battles in his 'miniature gaming', re-creating . . you decide... ;)' - Marcus (pcas)

OUT NOW! ISSUE 155 of the magazine '#FILMFAX' has the cast of the 1983 film 'The House of the Long Shadows' #VincentPrice, #ChristopherLee, #PeterCushing and #JohnCarradine... as part of their #Halloween issue, there is a feature on the film . . . it got a bit of a slapping on its release and after years of a grotty quality VHS release finally made a grand re entrance on blu ray.

ABOVE AND BELOW: 'The House Of The Long Shadows' : The House That Armstrong and Walker built!' Parts ONE and  TWO HERE!

DEPENDING on which release you buy, the extras will range from very good to 'well that is just weird' ... I will say no more. Nice cover. But that pose of Cushing, always looks cut and pasted to me...

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! TARKIN TIME!

OPINIONS ON THE CGI TARKIN that appeared in the 2016 film 'ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY' will probably be forever divided. Some say, it ALMOST works. Others, that it's just not LIFE LIKE, let alone CUSHING as TARKIN. While some like myself believe, it DOES . ..  98% of the time. I have always seen each STAR WARS movie, as a separate movie...despite the continuity thread of the stories.

EACH FILM IS NEW. Each film has it's own time to entertain and work. Despite whatever the prequel or any other releases signal or flag up, the job is to work. Many audiences today, judge the success and entertainment value, on what has happened before. If it is a remake, a sequel of prequel, it takes that test. It applies for completely NEW films too, with NO association to a series or similar theme.

WE SUSPECTED here at PCAS, like many others, that the CGI was coming. Just for a short time, CUSHING was BUZZING! When the release of the film arrived, newspapers, tv news, magazines and the net, carried opinions and images. For five months, CGI brought Peter Cushing BACK to world. I think ROGUE ONE is an amazing film and the appearance of a CGI Peter Cushing as Tarkin, is magic. For me, it always will be . .

LITTLE DID PETER CUSHING  know back in 1976, when he was shooting STAR WARS, that one little decision he made, after feeling the PINCH of his leather TARKIN boots, talk about his performance would not only be about how he played such a tyrant . .  but the word SLIPPERS, would also be forever associated too.

RARE DRACULA LOBBY CARD AND TARKIN TRIBUTE CLIP

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! Probably the strangest thing I have ever found included in the images of a US Lobby Set.... but VERY good indeed. A Throw Back to 1958 and the Horror of Dracula / Dracula from Hammer films. I disguarded piece of production or promotional artwork, ends up on a lobby card! 🙂 What do you think of it?

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! . . . . Industrial Light and Magic building Peter Cushing's Grand Moff Tarkin, from the feet up, with actor Guy Henry in 'Rogue One : A Star Wars Story' (2016) Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

DISNEY AND LUCASFILM were able to bring the look of the original 1977 movie back to the big screen with modern film making technology. Perhaps the most impressive achievement amidst all that attention to detail was the film’s uncanny ability to convincingly bring Peter Cushing’s character, the Grand Moff Tarkin, back to life on the screen. Here Guy Henry is outfitted with a motion-capture suit and head-mounted gear to preserve the actor’s moves and facial expressions, which were ultimately overlaid with Cushing’s likeness. The rig affixed to Henry almost looks like a device straight out of a sci-fi movie on its own.
